PATHOLOGY
Introduction
The Pathology module in OpenELIS enables pathologists to analyze specimens such as tissues, cells, and bodily fluids. This guide covers case creation, specimen processing, pathology test reviews, and reporting.
Creating a Pathology Case
Follow steps 1-29 from the "How to create a laboratory analysis order for an existing patient" section to create a pathology case.
Processing a Pathology Specimen
Access the Pathology Module:
Hover over the hamburger menu and click to open.
Expand the Pathology module and click on Dashboard.
Viewing Pathology Dashboard:
Summarizes cases in progress, awaiting review, additional requests, and completed tests.
Displays pathology test requests with details like request date, stage, technician, and lab number.
Filtering & Searching Cases:
Use My Cases checkbox or Status dropdown to filter requests.
Click a column header (e.g., Lab Number) to sort in ascending/descending order.
Use Search by LabNo or Family Name field to find a specific test.
Processing Specimens:
Select Status from the dropdown (e.g., "Processing").
Assign a technician and click Save.
Add specimen Blocks by clicking the Add Block button.
Specify Block Location and print labels.
Add Slides, fill locations, upload scanned slides, and print labels.
Change status to Staining, then click Save.
Once stained, update the status to Ready for Pathologist.
Reviewing & Concluding a Pathology Test
Reviewing Cases:
Select the technique used.
Place requests (e.g., slide rotation, staining) from the Requests dropdown.
Update Request Status to "Completed".
Change case status to Ready for Pathologist and click Save.
Entering Exam Findings:
Type Gross Exam and Microscopy Exam findings.
Select a Conclusion from the dropdown.
Enter a Text Conclusion if needed.
Releasing Results:
Click Add Report to upload or generate a pathology report.
Upload a file or click Generate Report.
Click Ready for Release, then Save.
Referring a Case to Immunochemistry
Click Refer to ImmunoHistoChemistry checkbox.
Select the test from the Select Test dropdown.
Click Save.
Uploading or Generating a Pathology Report
Access the Pathology Module and select a patient.
Click Add Report.
To Upload a Report:
Click Upload file, select the report, then click Open.
Click Save.
To Generate a Report:
Click Generate Report.
Click Save after generation.
