ENTERING LABORATORY ORDER
OpenELIS is organized around laboratory orders, which include samples and their associated tests. Each order must be linked to a patient. This section covers:
How to create a laboratory analysis order
How to modify or update a laboratory order
How to add or update a patient’s information
How to create a laboratory analysis order for an existing patient
Creating a Laboratory Analysis Order
Click on the menu icon at the top-left corner.
Select Orders from the dropdown menu.
Click on Add Order.
The Test Request Form will appear, which includes:
Patient Information
Program Selection
Add Sample
Add Order
Searching for an Existing Patient
Enter the Patient ID in the search box and click Search.
Select the patient from the Patient Results table.
Patient details will populate automatically.
Adding a New Patient
Click on the New Patient tab.
Enter patient details and emergency contact information.
Complete additional information and click Next.
Filling in Program Selection
Click Next to go to Program Selection.
Select a program from the dropdown menu.
Fill in the required fields for the selected program.
Click Next to proceed.
Adding a Sample
Choose a Sample Type from the dropdown menu.
Enter the Collection Date and Collector’s Name.
Select available tests.
Click Next to proceed.
Adding the Order
Fill in required details such as Lab Number, Priority, Site Name, Ward, Requester, and Payment Status.
Scan or manually enter the Lab Number.
Choose a Priority and select other relevant fields.
Click Submit.
Printing the Barcode
Click on Print Barcode.
Click Download to save it or Print to generate a label.
Modifying or Updating a Laboratory Order
Click on Edit Order under the Orders module.
Search for the order using:
Laboratory Accession Number
Patient ID or Patient Name
Modify details such as:
Specimen Type
Collection Date & Time
Assigned Tests
Requester Information
Click Submit to save changes.
Creating a Reflex Test Order
Navigate to Orders and select Add Order.
Search for the patient and select them.
Click Next to select the sample and tests.
Click Generate and select Site Name and Requester.
Click Submit, then Print Barcode.
