ENTERING LAB TEST RESULTS

Once samples and patients exist in the system, lab technicians can record test results. Results can be entered by:

  • Lab Unit

  • Patient

  • Laboratory Order Number

  • Range of Order Numbers

  • Sample Collection Date

Note: A red flag indicates a non-conforming event (NCE).


Accessing the Results Entry Page

  1. Hover over the hamburger icon and click to open the menu.

  2. Access the OpenELIS menu.

  3. Navigate to the Results module and select an entry method:

    • By Unit

    • By Patient

    • By Order

    • By Range of Order Numbers

    • By Test Date


Entering Results

By Unit

  1. Click By Unit under the Results module.

  2. Select a Test Unit from the dropdown.

  3. Click Search to display pending test results.

By Patient

  1. Click By Patient under the Results module.

  2. Enter Patient ID, Previous Lab Number, Last Name, or First Name.

  3. Click Search.

  4. Select the desired patient and enter results.

By Order

  1. Click By Order under the Results module.

  2. Enter the Accession Number.

  3. Click Search to display results.

By Range of Order Numbers

  1. Click By Range of Order Numbers under the Results module.

  2. Enter the Accession Number Range.

  3. Click Search to display filtered results.

By Test Date

  1. Click By Test Date under the Results module.

  2. Enter parameters such as Collection Date (dd/mm/yyyy), Test Name, Test Status, or Sample Status.

  3. Click Search.


Filling the Result Entry Section

For all entry methods, results must be filled in designated fields:

  • Lab Sample Info

  • Test Date

  • Analyzer

  • Test Name

  • Normal Range

  • Results

  • Current Result

  • Notes

Accepting Results:

  1. Click the Accept checkbox if results are accepted unconditionally.

  2. Click OK on the pop-up dialogue.

  3. Enter numerical or dropdown-selected results.

  4. Add Notes if necessary.

  5. Click Save. A confirmation message will appear.


Referring a Test to Another Laboratory

  1. Expand the test referral section by clicking the > arrow.

  2. Enter the following details:

    • Method

    • Referral Reason

    • Receiving Institute

    • Test to Perform

    • Sent Date

  3. Click Save. A confirmation message will appear.
