👩🔬 For Lab Staff
For Lab Staff
End users (lab technicians, biologists, pathologists) and lab administrators configuring the system day to day.
Who this is for
You work in a laboratory and use OpenELIS Global to enter orders, record results, validate test outcomes, and run reports. Or you administer an OpenELIS installation — configuring tests, managing users, setting up barcodes and dictionaries, and keeping the system running smoothly for your colleagues. Both roles share most of the same documentation; what differs is how deep into the admin tooling you go.
What to read first
If you're a lab technician or biologist (end user)
PART 1: Navigating OpenELIS Global — your first 10 minutes in the app. Login, menu, where things live.
PART 4: Entering Laboratory Orders — the most common workflow. Search patient, create order, generate barcode.
PART 12: Entering Lab Test Results — how to record results from the bench.
PART 13: Results Validation (Biological Validation) — the supervisor-level review step.
PART 14: Reports — pulling results out of the system.
Once you've done a task once, switch to the End User Quick Reference versions of the same workflows — same content, no screenshots, fast to scan.
If you're a lab administrator
PART 1: Introduction — what the admin module does and doesn't do.
PART 3: Accessing the OpenELIS Global Administration Module — how to get to the admin pages.
PART 5: Dictionary — configuring the system's lookup values.
PART 6: Test Management — adding and managing tests, reflex rules.
User Management — creating accounts, assigning roles and lab unit privileges.
If you read French / Si vous lisez le français
The functional requirements documentation in French is at Fonctionnalités d'OpenELIS. Most user-facing documentation in the manual itself is still English-primary.

Where to get help
Inside your lab — your lab administrator is the first point of contact for day-to-day questions about how OpenELIS is configured at your site.
OpenMRS Talk — the OpenELIS Global category is the primary community discussion forum.
Documentation feedback — see something that's out of date or unclear? Use Confluence's inline comments on the relevant page, or post in Talk.
Stay current
The Confluence space is updated continuously as features ship. Click the bell icon at the top right of any page to be notified when it changes. The Releases page tells you what's new in each version.
