Roadmap

  • Interoperability Roadmap — multi-quarter integration plan covering FHIR, OpenMRS, Odoo, analyzer plugins, and central / consolidated server work

Versioning convention

OpenELIS uses a four-part version: {major}.{minor}.{stability}.{patch}. The third digit signals stability:

  • x.x.1.x — Alpha (developer testing)

  • x.x.2.x — Beta (limited deployment)

  • x.x.3.x — Production-ready

Production deployments should always run a x.x.3.x version.

What's in each release

Release details live in the child pages linked from the version table above. Each version's child page describes what shipped, what was deprecated, and any breaking changes. For more granular code-level information, see the GitHub releases page.

How to follow releases by role

If you're an implementer or operator

  1. Watch this page — you'll be emailed when a new release is announced.

  2. Watch the GitHub releases page for security patches and bug fixes (often announced there first).

  3. For country-specific deployment notes, also watch your country implementation page (Madagascar, Ethiopia, Indonesia).

If you're a developer

Watch GitHub releases for tag announcements. Watch the Roadmap page for what's coming in the next quarter. Follow Talk for design discussions.

If you're a lab user

Your lab admin will brief you on changes. New features that affect end-user workflows are documented in the For Lab Staff section.

Upgrade planning

Before upgrading any production deployment:

  1. Read the target version's release notes (linked above).

  2. Read the relevant upgrade guide in For Implementers.

  3. Take and verify a backup (Backup Configuration).

  4. Test the upgrade on a non-production environment that mirrors production.

  5. Schedule downtime and communicate with affected lab users.
