PART 2: INTRODUCTION TO OPENMRS
How to login to OpenMRS
To login to OpeMRS, You will require a username and password obtained from the administrator of your OpenELIS instance.

Select your location from the list below. Use the search bar to find your location.
Click on the Confirm button
Upon successful login, you will be navigated to the Home page. To create a new patient, click on the patient icon at the top right.
Upon clicking on the new patient icon, the patient registration form is displayed. Fill in the Basic Information section which entails:
First name
Middle name
Last name
Sex
Date of birth
Upon filling the Basic information page click on the Register Patient button. The Cancel button will close the button.
Note
The No toggle button is used when the patient name is unknown.
The Edit or the pencil icon are used to edit a passport photo size of the patient
The No toggle button under Date of Birth Known will allow you to estimate the patient’s age in years or months
The Configure -> is used to change the patient identifier. In this illustration, the configured identifier is OpenMRS ID which is auto generated when a patient is created.
Clicking on the Configure identifier will open a side page that allows the user to select from the check boxes the patient identifier and configure it. The Cancel button closes the side page.
The Contact Details section allows you to capture the patient's address which includes;
Address
Country
Telephone number
The Relationship section allows you to capture a patient’s relationship by clicking on the Add Relationship button.
Search for a name and select the Relationship to the patient from the Relationship drop-down menu.
Upon registration of the patient, the patient summary page is displayed. To add a laboratory order, click on the order basket icon at the top right.
Click on the Start Visit button. The Cancel button will close the dialogue.
Note.
The new appointment is selected by default.
The Ongoing tab should be used only for an active visit.
The Visit start date should be entered from the date and time picker
The In the past tab should only be used to enter a retrospective visit.
The Visit start and end date are picked from the date and time
Select the visit location from the drop-down menu. In this illustration, the Ubuntu location is selected as an example. The X icon is used to remove the current location.
Search for a Visit Type under Search for visit type text box. Alternatively, select the visit type from the radio-buttons listed. In this illustration, Facility Visit is selected.
Note:
The punctuality drop-down menu item allows a clinician to select options; On time, Late and Early for the patient’s visit
The Insurance Policy Number allows for capturing of an insurance policy number for the patient if the patient has an insurance
Click on the Start visit button
Note: This patient is newly created. As a user, you had to start a visit for a laboratory order to be raised. Click on the order basket to create the order.
Click on Add + under the Lab order.
Search for a test type in the Search for a test type text field.
In this illustration, White blood cells is searched. Click on the Add to basket button.
The test will be added to the basket and tagged as incomplete. Click on the test. The trash icon is used to delete the test.
Enter the lab reference number. In this illustration, 2345098 is entered.
Select the priority for the test from the Priority drop-down menu.
Enter any additional instructions to the laboratory staff.
Click on the Save order button.
Click on the Sign and Close button. The laboratory test is saved successfully.
Click on the Order menu item on the left side menu navigation. The order is listed under the Orders table for the patient with the status In Progress.
Upon successful processing of the laboratory order, click on the Order menu item on the left side menu navigation. The order is listed under the Orders table for the patient with the status Completed.
Click on the lab order to view the results.
PART 3: INTRODUCTION TO OpenELIS
The OpenELIS Global system is made up of a variety of concise screens and workflows to help with the collection, management, and reporting of laboratory data. The use of this system is intended to provide a structured approach to managing the data within the clinical laboratory setting to ensure high-quality testing processes and results data that is then made accessible to external systems and people in the clinical, population, and programmatic health workflows.
How to login to OpenELIS and Process an Electronic Order
To login to OpeELIS, You will require a username and password obtained from the administrator of your OpenELIS instance.
Type in your username and password and click on the Submit button.
Notice: Access to this service is for authorized personnel only. If you do not have the expressed authorization of the administrator, you must exit now. This organization prohibits unauthorized access, disclosure, duplication, modification, diversion, destruction, loss, misuse, or theft of its information.
Once you connect to OpenELIS Global, the home page will display the laboratory management statistics for your understanding of the current state of the lab testing processes.
Click on Electric Orders under the home page to view laboratory orders sent via the LinkEMR
Note:
The Electronic Orders are displayed
To access the incoming laboratory orders, click on the hamburger menu item at the top left
Click on the Order drop-down menu.
Click on the Incoming Order
Search by family name, national ID number, lab number from referring lab, or passport number. In this illustration, the family name Doe is typed. Click on the Search button
Note;
Search by Date, and Status Enter the date range for test requests. This will search by the date of the referral, or the order date of the electronic request
Click on the test Request(s) Matching Search - In the drop-down menu.
Add a lab number and select to accept the order as is. In this illustration, we generate a lab number by clicking on generate

Use the pencil icon to make changes
Upon generation of a lab order number, click on the add button to add the order.
Click on the Next button under the Test Request page.
Select a program under which to put the test request by selecting from the drop-down menu then click on the Next button.
Select the Sample from the drop-down menu. In this illustration, whole blood is selected.
Select the order from the checkboxes.
Click on the Next button
At this juncture the lab order is processed and once ready for results entry, click on the hamburger menu item.

The patient can be searched by;

In this illustration the Last Name Doe is entered and the Search button is clicked
Select the patient matching your search results by clicking on the radio-button. Select the patient matching your search results by clicking on the radio-button
Enter the results in the Results text box and click on the Save button
Upon entry of results, the assigned lab staff can validate the results under the validation section. Click on the hamburger menu item.

Results can be validated by;

Range of Order Numbers
Date
The Order is clicked
